House Will Vote on Pro-Life Bill Banning Late-Term Abortions After 20 Weeks

via LifeNews.com September 25, 2017 at 05:27PM

The House of Representatives will vote in the coming days on a pro-life bill that bans abortions from after 20-weeks of pregnancy up to the day of birth. The House has previously approved the legislation only to see a Democrat-led filibuster prevent the bill from moving forward in the Senate.

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) will host a press conference tomorrow to detail when the chamber will vote on the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (H.R. 36). He will be joined by top pro-life lawmakers including Reps. Diane Black (TN-06), Representative Trent Franks (AZ-08), Representative Vicky Hartzler (MO-04), Representative Chris Smith and pro-life leaders.

They will be joined by the family of Micah Pickering to speak in support of legislation to protect unborn children after five months – more than halfway through pregnancy, when science shows they can feel pain.  Micah Pickering is a five year old boy who was born at twenty weeks.

SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser will be on hand and is urging Congress to pass the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act.

“The United States is a global outlier when it comes to our extreme, permissive abortion laws,” she told LifeNews. “We are one of only seven nations in the world that allow children in the womb to be killed for any reason up until the moment of birth, putting us in the company of China and North Korea. Twenty states have passed their own legislation to protect babies at five months, and polls consistently show that a large majority of Americans – women in higher numbers than men – support bringing our laws into line with basic human decency. We are grateful to Leader McCarthy for advancing a vote on this compassionate, popular bill that would protect children like Micah.”

SIGN THE PETITION! Congress Must Ban Late-Term Abortions

The House passed the bill previously in 2015.

The vote for the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act at that time broke down on mostly partisan lines with Republicans supporting the ban on late-term abortions and Democrats opposing it. The House approved the bill on a 242-184 vote with four Democrats (Reps. Cuellar, Langevin, Lipinski, and Peterson) voting for the bill and five Republicans voting against it (Reps. Dent, Dold, Hanna, Frelinghuysen) or voting present (Hice).

During the debate on the bill to ban abortions after 20 weeks, Congressman Sean Duffy gave what may be one of the most passionate defenses of the pro-life position ever seen on the floor of Congress. Duffy took on the claim often made by Democrats who support abortion saying they stand for the defenseless and voiceless.

“I’ve listened to the floor debate day after day .. about how they fight for the forgotten, they fight for the defenseless, they fight for the voiceless. And they pound their chest and stomp their feet. You don’t have anyone in our society that’s more defenseless than these little babies,” he said. “And we are not taking — I believe in conception. I know my colleagues can’t agree with me on that. Can’t we come together and say we are going to stand with little babies that feel pain, that survive outside the womb? Ones that don’t have lobbyists and money? Don’t we stand with those little babies?”

“If you stand with the defenseless, with the voiceless, you have to stand with little babies. Don’t talk to me about cruelty in our bill — when you look at little babies being dismembered, feeling excruciating pain, if we can’t stand to defend these children, what do we stand for in this institution?” he added.

The vote for the bill came on the anniversary of the conviction of late-term abortionist Kermit Gosnell, who killed babies in a live-birth abortion process.

“Two years ago today, Pennsylvania abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell was convicted of murder, conspiracy to kill and involuntary manslaughter and sentenced to life imprisonment,” Congressman Chris Smith said.

“Even though the news of Gosnell’s child slaughter was largely suppressed by the mainstream media, many of my colleagues may remember that Dr. Gosnell operated a large Philadelphia abortion clinic where women died and countless babies were dismembered or chemically destroyed often by having their spinal cords snipped—all gruesome procedures causing excruciating pain to the victim,” he added. “The Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act is needed now more than ever because there are Gosnells all over America, dismembering and decapitating pain-capable babies for profit.”

“Fresh impetus for the bill came from a huge study of nearly 5,000 babies—preemies—published last week in the New England Journal of Medicine. The next day, a New York Times article titled: “Premature Babies May Survive at 22 Weeks if Treated” touted the Journal’s extraordinary findings of survival and hope,” Congressman Smith continued. “Thus the babies we seek to protect from harm today may survive if treated humanely, with expertise and compassion—not the cruelty of the abortion.”

2015 was the second time the House has voted for the legislation — having approved it in May 2013. The bill was then blocked by pro-abortion Democrats who controlled the U.S. Senate.

During the hearing on the last bill, former abortion practitioner Anthony Levatino told members of the committee the gruesome details of his former abortion practice and how he became pro-life following the tragic automobile accident of his child.

Another bombshell dropped during the hearing came from Dr. Maureen Condic, who is Associate Professor of Neurobiology and Adjunct Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Utah School of Medicine. She testified that the unborn child is capable of reacting to pain as early as 8-10 weeks. This is when most abortions in America take place.

Americans strongly support legislation that would ban late-term abortions and protect babies who are capable of feeling intense pain during an abortion.

President Donald Trump Will Sign Pro-Life Bill Banning Late-Term Abortions After 20 Weeks

via LifeNews.com September 27, 2017 at 03:43PM

A bill proposing to ban late-term abortions is a “high priority” for President Donald Trump, according to one pro-life leader who met with him recently. It’s a bill she’s hoping the media will cover.

On Tuesday, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) held a press conference with pro-life leaders and politicians to announce an Oct. 3 vote on the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act in the U.S. House of Representatives. Speakers at the Washington, D.C. event included Rep. Trent Franks (R-AZ), Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser and the Pickering family.

In July 2012, Micah Pickering was born prematurely at twenty weeks (22 weeks gestation) to Clayton and Danielle. This piece of legislation aims to protect unborn babies after five months, or Micah’s age at birth, when SBA List reports babies can feel pain. Today, Micah is a healthy 5-year-old.

Following the press conference, Marjorie Dannenfelser spoke with MRC Culture. While the House passed (and the Senate blocked) a previous version of the bill in 2015, she stressed that the Oct. 3 vote would be different.

SIGN THE PETITION! Congress Must Ban Late-Term Abortions

She first pointed to election pressure. “This will be a big issue in the 2018 Senate elections,” she said, where constituents can hold politicians accountable.

Not only that, she added, but the bill boasts the support of the president.

“The other thing that is different this time is that the president of the United States, who I talked with last night at the White House about this, considers it a high priority,” she continued. “So this has become now a national conversation, not just a conversation that you have off on the sidelines.”

According to Dannenfelser, 5-year-old Micah embodied the legislation.

“Micah really is the real face of this issue,” she urged. “Because it’s really easy to talk about it, the abortion issue, in abstract theoretical terms. But when you really have come across … and see a young man running around full of energy and love, you realize this is not any other political issue.”

While her organization learns “continually that there are other boys and girls like Micah,” Dannenfelser highlighted that there was a more important discussion than the number of babies who survived premature births.

“However, even if there were – there are really only a handful, there’s something that’s really important about it. It’s not about the fact that they lived, that they defied all odds and they lived, though that’s really important,” she began. “The 20-week bill actually is generally pre-viability, before children are able to live outside the womb.”

Instead, she argued for the importance of every unborn life, viable or not..

“So viability as an argument is lacking in compassion, when you see that just like a week before Micah’s birth he could have been legally aborted at many many places,” she added. “You see that this is about a human being whose life deserves to be protected.”

Dannenfelser also expressed optimism on media coverage of the bill.

“I have really found that over the last several years, of dealing especially with this 20-week bill that the media in general are listening,” she said. “I mean, there are obviously exceptions.”

But this legislation was something that media could comprehend.

“But because this really appeals to the basic humanity of people, I’m not saying that they’re on our side, or they’re agreeing, but I think when the  – that when they’re faced with this issue, they at least get it,” she added. “Sometimes they don’t even get our issues.”

For the media to hurt the bill, reporters would have to censor it, she concluded.

The only way that media bias could really kill this is by not reporting it at all, which is, of course, one tactic that happens a lot. That would be something of concern,” Dannenfelser concluded. “But I’m finding mainstream outlets with reporters that they understand why it resonates. They basically get most of the arguments out and frankly, without the pressure of really good outlets, I don’t think that would have happened.”

Only Seven Countries in the World Allow Abortions After 5 Months, Including the U.S.

via LifeNews.com September 27, 2017 at 06:13PM

While Senate Republicans may as well have embarked on a suicide mission after this week’s health care debacle, House conservatives are doing all they can to salvage the party’s reputation. And that starts, Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) announced, with life.

EWTN’s Jason Calvi broke the news on Twitter that the California conservative intends to hold a vote on the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act as early as next week — giving deflated pro-lifers something to cheer about after the Senate’s failure to defund Planned Parenthood. “House @GOPLeader announces chamber will vote on 20-week abortion ban (#theyfeelpain bill) on Oct 3.” House conservatives have made a habit of passing the popular legislation, only to watch it die at the hands of the Senate’s 60-vote threshold.

As pro-life members have argued in Congress, there are only seven countries in the world (including China and North Korea) that allow the killing of unborn children at or beyond five months in utero. At this point in pregnancy, the most common method of abortion is dismemberment, which tears a baby apart, piece by painful piece. “More than 18,000 ‘very late term’ abortions are performed every year on perfectly healthy unborn babies in America,” Rep. Trent Franks (R-Ariz.) points out. “These are innocent and defenseless children who can not only feel pain, but who can survive outside of the womb in most cases, and who are torturously killed without even basic anesthesia.”

SIGN THE PETITION! Congress Must Ban Late-Term Abortions

Of course, liberals like to argue that the bill is extreme — but what’s actually extreme is our current law. As conservatives have argued, it’s common practice for doctors to use anesthesia on babies 20 weeks along for in-utero surgeries because they can feel pain. What kind of inhumane culture gives “wanted” babies anesthesia but tortures others? Sadly, ours.

For a country blessed with such incredible prenatal technology, it’s mind-blowing that we haven’t changed our laws to reflect the basic personhood of these tiny humans. Science has expanded our knowledge of unborn pain, and it’s time for the law to catch up. And while the U.S. House has done its part in trying to end this inhumane legacy, they haven’t had the benefit of a pro-life president. Now, thankfully, they do. We applaud the House for seizing the moment and taking an important step in bringing American policy in line with American values on life.

Abby Johnson Recalls When Planned Parenthood Promoted Free Abortions After Hurricane Katrina

via LifeNews.com September 8, 2017 at 02:12PM

In 2005, Louisiana was devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Thousands lost their lives. Even more lost everything they owned and were displaced, some for years. I remember turning on the television in our waiting room at Planned Parenthood to watch the news and hear the tragic reports rolling in. It was a helpless feeling to sit and watch without being able to be helpful and supportive to those who had lost so much.

As many as 250,000 people took refuge in Houston after Hurricane Katrina. Busses were bringing people by the thousands. The Planned Parenthood I worked for at the time was an affiliate based out of Houston and it was decided that we actually did have an opportunity to help victims of Katrina.

Well, we thought we were helping.

Did Planned Parenthood decide that we would go as a group and help those in shelters? No. Did we collect non-perishable food items for those who had been displaced? Nope. We decided that we would offer victims of Katrina free abortions. That’s right. Free abortions. Except they were not totally free. We never did anything for free and were paid one way or another.

In this case, the bulk of the money for these “free abortions” came from the Lilith Fund, a nonprofit based in Texas that raises money for abortions, and private donors. It was easy to not only prey on vulnerable women during their time of crisis but it was easy to raise money because people who believed in abortion weren’t terribly hard to convince about sending us money for “free abortions.”

I can’t remember that we actually did that many, but we felt good about this “service” we were providing to the victims.

Now today, following the horror of Hurricane Harvey in Houston, there is an almost identical situation playing out. The Lilith Fund is asking donors to send money again to Texas for women who need abortions. And the pro-abortion Women’s March is also pushing for donations for abortions for these women affected by the hurricane. As if enough lives haven’t been taken already.

SIGN THE PETITION! Congress Must De-Fund Planned Parenthood Immediately

While Planned Parenthood this time isn’t taking the lead on preying upon vulnerable women, another abortion chain – one less wealthy and certainly less influential – is: Whole Woman’s Health. This abortion chain was made famous, or infamous really, from their Supreme Court case out of Texas, Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstadt.

That case was brought forward by Whole Woman’s Health as they were bound and determined not to follow very common-sense safety regulations for women that every other outpatient facility had to follow. Unfortunately, they won the case and continue to subject women to their shoddy facilities and unsafe care, women who they claim have nowhere else to go because of Harvey yet desperately need abortions.

In an attempt to raise money for their failing business, Whole Woman’s Health is now offering “free abortions” to those affected by Hurricane Harvey. I hardly believe they are doing this out of charity and for no money at all because remember, the abortion industry does nothing for free. Most likely, they are billing these “free abortions” to their anonymous donor who gives all National Abortion Federation affiliated faculties up to $23 million dollars per year for low income women to have abortions. That donor is none other than population control fanatic, Warren Buffet.

He was always happy to pay any invoice we sent to him and I feel confident that is the case in this particular situation.

Either way, when tragedy strikes, we should work to help victims solve problems, address their immediate needs with compassion and love, and be as generous as we can to help them recover. My organization, And Then There Were None, which helps abortion workers to leave their jobs, is working with organizations in Houston and the surrounding areas to help mothers and expecting moms get what they need for their babies through a baby registry. All items that are purchased are sent directly to these moms in need.

We should never attempt to pile tragedy on top of tragedy, which is exactly what this “free abortion” offer does to women.

Pussycat Dolls Singer Kaya Jones: Hollywood’s Love of Abortion “Shows How Evil Our World Has Become”

via LifeNews.com September 14, 2017 at 11:23AM

As many in Hollywood unabashedly support the abortion industry, one artist is setting herself apart by challenging the narrative.

In a recent interview with MRC Culture, Kaya Jones of the Pussycat Dolls described Hollywood’s push of abortion as showing “how evil our world has become.” Besides telling her own fight against Planned Parenthood, she revealed other personal stories about what happens when young women in the entertainment industry refuse abortion.

From 2003 to 2004, Kaya served as one of the lead singers for the Pussycat Dolls, a popular girl group that sold more than 15 million albums and 40 million singles. A supporter of President Trump and the military, Kaya made headlines last month for her tribute to the armed forces with her new song, “What the Heart Don’t Know.”

In August, Kaya also made clear where she stood on abortion. On social media, she criticized Hollywood for pushing abortion on women in her industry.

“Hollywood elites push eating disorders, sex, drugs, & abortion on young women in the entertainment industry,” the artist tweeted to her nearly 140,000 followers.

In an exclusive interview with MRC Culture, the 33-year-old supported her claim about Hollywood elites.

“I know personally with people that I have been in business with, that have been affected by it, and have been asked to do things that they don’t want to do,” she urged. She also pointed to her “own journey” of “witnessing things that are just unacceptable.”

More specifically, Kaya addressed how Hollywood pushes abortion.

“It more comes down to the fact of you being available constantly and you being this image of false narrative,” she began.

Challenging Hollywood’s unabashed support of Planned Parenthood, America’s largest abortion provider, Kaya pointed to the industry’s hypocrisy on death.

“[T]hey have a problem with, you know, capital punishment. They have a problem with the death penalty,” she began. “But a baby, or a life that is so pure, doesn’t have any meaning?”

That should say how evil our world has become,” she continued, “that someone who hurts other individuals, kills people or does something that’s completely wrong and just should be abolished in my mind, somehow holds more value than a very pure innocent life that was just a circumstance, and it wasn’t their choice of this circumstance.”

Kaya revealed that she knew “many” circumstances “because that’s been my world.” She pointed to friends who made “choices that they didn’t want to make” and were “forced into things that they didn’t want to do” merely because they wanted to keep their jobs.

PRO-LIFE COLLEGE STUDENT? LifeNews is looking for interns interested in writing, social media, or video creation. Contact us today.

She told the story of one friend who had an abortion.

“She actually went forward with something because it was told ‘you were going to lose your job’ and she did that,” Kaya said.

But when her friend became pregnant a second time after marrying the father of her first unborn baby, she refused abortion. As a result, Kaya remembered, “she was subsequently fired for having a baby.”

“At the time, she was young,” Kaya continued. “She’s now married, has a beautiful child and that child would’ve – and does – have a sibling. It’s just not here.”

Then Kaya disclosed her own fight against Planned Parenthood.

A company she had partnered with wanted to cut ties with her for her convictions. For five years, the business had partnered with her to promote her “Hollywood Doll” brand that sold “candy and cute things for young girls.”

Because of her support for the president, among other things, the store told her “I’ve lost my mind,” Kaya recalled. But the last straw, she said, was the company’s support of Planned Parenthood.

The company “pushed the narrative of their, one of their products in the store is – all of the proceeds are going to Planned Parenthood,” she added. “And that for me just said, ‘Then I don’t want to be in business with you.’ Because that’s not okay.”

While Kaya said “every situation is different” in regards to abortion, she slammed the idea of taxpayer funding.

To expect Christians and pro-life Americans to pay taxes or “for them to pay for other people’s mistakes is not okay to do to a taxpayer first and foremost,” she argued.

While the Hyde Amendment bars federal funding (aka taxpayer funding) for abortion except in cases of rape, incest or to save the life of the mother, pro-life leaders argue that the government money is fungible. The argument that money is fungible, or that Planned Parenthood could offset costs with public funds to free up other resources for abortion, is a point frequently highlighted by pro-life groups.

Hinting at the undercover Planned Parenthood videos by the Center for Medical Progress, she added, “It’s not okay to actually take a life out of an individual for whatever reason and then sell those body parts.”

“It’s sick. It’s really sick. And it’s hurtful because those lives were real and just and you’re giving them absolutely no grace in the end of their life,” she continued. “It’s, you know, they’ll have to meet their Maker one day. So as much as we all have our opinions on this matter, I think at the end of the day they’re going to have to meet God one day and they’ll have to answer for themselves on what they chose to do with their time on earth, you know?”

Democrats Don’t Think Pro-Life Christians Should Serve as Judges Anymore

via LifeNews.com September 14, 2017 at 10:22AM

Earlier this month, during a judicial confirmation hearing for 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals nominee Amy Barrett, who is a Catholic law professor, Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., questioned whether Barrett could be a Christian and a judge at the same time:

Why is it that so many of us on this side have this very uncomfortable feeling that—you know, dogma and law are two different things. And I think whatever a religion is, it has its own dogma. The law is totally different. And I think in your case, professor, when you read your speeches, the conclusion one draws is that the dogma lives loudly within you, and that’s of concern when you come to big issues that large numbers of people have fought for years in this country.

What caused Barrett to draw such a charge?

Feinstein appeared to be questioning Barrett based on a scholarly article she wrote exploring what a Catholic judge should do when the law required something that went against their faith.

What did Barrett say in the article? Based on Feinstein’s question, one would think she brought down the theological cudgel and sided with faith over the law.

Hardly so. Barrett actually wrote that the judge should recuse him or herself in such cases, as “[j]udges cannot—nor should they try to—align our legal system with the Church’s moral teaching whenever the two diverge.”

Let us assume that Feinstein actually read the article. Instead of questioning her over such sentiments, Feinstein should be happy that Barrett would bind her public service by moral principles. Does she want judges who are not so bound?

Perhaps Feinstein should direct her own question toward herself. What is her own dogma? Her own beliefs obviously cause her “concern” that someone of serious Christian faith would hold a position of public service.

The point is that everyone has private beliefs that guide the way they live their lives. The only question is what those beliefs are.

As the writer David Foster Wallace noted during a commencement speech to Kenyon College graduates many years ago, “In the day-to-day trenches of adult life, there is actually no such thing as atheism. There is no such thing as not worshipping. Everybody worships. The only choice we get is what to worship.”

So, what does Feinstein worship? What personal beliefs guide her? It sounds like she believes in a public square scrubbed clean of Christians. If so, what gives her the right to impose that “dogma” on Barrett and others?

Feinstein should be happy that Barrett has a moral code by which she will act ethically. Why would anyone want a judge who lacks such a code?

The more people believe there is a higher power watching their actions and requiring them to do the right thing (such as telling the truth and refusing a bribe), the less likely they are to act unethically—a crucial quality for judges and other public servants.

Later in the same hearing, Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill.,—not to be outdone—jumped in with his own inquisition into her religious beliefs and asked Barrett: “Do you consider yourself an orthodox Catholic?”

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen this type of anti-religious grilling resurface in our modern political era.

When Russell Vought was nominated for deputy director of the Office of Management and Budget earlier this year, Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., thought it appropriate to quiz him about a blog post he wrote defending the Christian view of salvation in the context of a private theological debate.

As I wrote at the time, Sanders’ views—refusing to approve of a nominee for nothing but his private religious beliefs—were the ones that were bigoted, not the other way around.

Durbin should realize his intolerance is showing in this case.

Regardless, this whole episode exposes a flaw in thinking about the connection between one’s core beliefs and the law. Everyone has beliefs that guide their lives. The only question is what they are.

As a society, we should want people in positions of public trust who have principles guiding them to act ethically and serve the public well. No American should ever be forced to choose between their faith and public service.

If Feinstein and Durbin realized that, they would vote to confirm Barrett immediately.

“Telemed” Abortions Pose Health Risks for Women Despite What Abortion Proponents Claim

via LifeNews.com September 14, 2017 at 06:57PM

The number of abortion facilities in the United States has been declining, and many midwestern and southern states have few abortion clinics left. In response, supporters of legal abortion have advanced some medically risky proposals to expand abortion access. For instance, in 2013, the California state legislature passed a bill allowing nurses and midwives, in addition to doctors, to perform abortions. In 2008, Planned Parenthood in Iowa began offering “telemed” abortions – chemical abortions administered to patients who ingest abortion-inducing medication without a physician physically present. In 2016, abortion facilities in Maine also started offering telemed abortions.

Many people are concerned about the safety of this type of abortion procedure. In fact, 19 states have passed legislation banning the practice, putting supporters of legal abortion on the defensive. Last week, the journal Obstetrics & Gynecology published a study, which purports to show that telemed abortions taking place in Iowa are as safe as medical abortions performed under the supervision of a physician. The study has received sympathetic coverage from a number of media outlets, including HuffPost, Mother Jones, and Iowa Public Radio.

The Obstetrics & Gynecology study analyzes data from over 19,000 women in Iowa who underwent medical abortions between 2008 and 2015. Specifically, the study compares the health outcomes of women who had telemed abortions to those of women who had medical abortions with a physician present. The results indicate that these two groups of women had a similar likelihood of subsequently experiencing an adverse medical event, such as an emergency-room visit, hospitalization, or a blood transfusion.

Even though this study appears to be comprehensive, it has a number of shortcomings. For example, it is well documented in peer-reviewed research that, as a pregnancy progresses, the risk of complications from an abortion procedure increases. This study did not hold constant the gestational age of the unborn child in each case, making it difficult to compare outcomes. Similarly, the chances of an adverse medical event might also be affected by the age of the mother, her income, and her past medical history; the study also failed to hold constant these important factors. Finally, the data on adverse outcomes following abortion procedures were collected from surveys of a wide variety of Iowa hospitals, and the survey reported only a 35 percent response rate. The authors also admit that some of the responders may not have reviewed medical records and instead relied only on their recall of the events in question, making it extremely likely that some adverse events were misremembered or not included.

Click here to sign up for pro-life news alerts from LifeNews.com

These flaws in the study make it difficult to take its results at face value, especially given the results of previous studies on this topic. A 2015 study on the safety of medical abortion in California — which obtained comprehensive and reliable data from Medicaid billing records rather than surveys — found that .31 percent of California women who obtained medical abortions experienced a major complication of some kind. Comparing those results to the findings of the Obstetrics & Gynecology study, California women are supposedly 21 percent more likely to experience a major complication after a medical abortion than Iowa women, suggesting that this recent study of medical abortion in Iowa likely missed some instances of complications.

Furthermore, the 2015 study of California — again, which had comprehensive health data on women who obtained abortions – found that medical abortions resulted in four times the complication rate as first-trimester surgical abortions. Given that chemical abortions are already more risky than early surgical abortions, it stands to reason that medical abortions performed without physician supervision can only increase those risks.

Good data on medical abortions show that they pose significant health risks to women. The concerns of pro-lifers and other public-health professionals about the safety of telemed abortions are well founded.

Top Pro-Life Groups Endorse Graham-Cassidy Health Care Bill That Defunds Planned Parenthood Abortion Biz

via LifeNews.com September 15, 2017 at 11:36AM

Two top pro-life groups are backing the Graham-Cassidy Health Care Bill that would defund the Planned Parenthood abortion business. As LifeNews reported, members of the US Senate yesterday introduced new legislation that would repeal Obamacare and it also defunds the Planned Parenthood abortion business.

The new Graham-Cassidy Healthcare bill has been introduced by pro-life Senators Lindsey Graham and Bill Cassidy along with other pro-life members of the Senate. Pro-life former presidential candidate Rick Santorum also participated in the process of crafting the legislation.

According to pro-life sources on Capitol Hill that spoke with LifeNews.com, the legislation defunds the Planned Parenthood abortion business, also rolls back taxpayer funding of abortion under Obamacare and contains other pro-life revisions that pro-life voters will find especially helpful.

Today, Family Research Council (FRC) and Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) today announced their shared support.

“The Graham-Cassidy legislation would reapply to federal health care law the principle contained in the Hyde Amendment that abortion is not health care and should not be subsidized. It redirects taxpayer funding away from abortion businesses like Planned Parenthood and provides better state-based health insurance solutions for families than Obamacare,” they told LifeNews.

Family Research Council President Tony Perkins and SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser released the following joint statement in support of the Graham-Cassidy legislation:

“We applaud Senators Graham and Cassidy for their leadership and strongly endorse the bill they have crafted. This legislation offers Republicans the best chance to fulfill their promises to repeal and replace Obamacare, stop taxpayer funding of abortion, and redirect tax dollars away from the nation’s largest abortion business, Planned Parenthood, to comprehensive health care alternatives.

“It is now well past time for Republicans in Congress to deliver on those promises. The Graham-Cassidy bill offers them the best chance to do that, with only 51 votes needed in the Senate to pass it before the September 30 deadline. The prior Congress passed legislation to repeal Obamacare and fund alternatives instead of Planned Parenthood that would have become law had it not been vetoed by President Obama, and now they have a commitment from President Trump to sign it. The pro-life majority controls both chambers of Congress and the White House. The GOP is without excuse. We urge them to keep their promise and repeal Obamacare and end the forced partnership between taxpayers and Planned Parenthood. Failure to keep their promise to voters will bring into question whether this Congress can truly be called the ‘pro-life Congress.’ Rhetoric must be translated into verifiable action.

“Should robust efforts to enact the Graham-Cassidy legislation though the FY2017 Reconciliation bill run out of time, then the fight to redirect funds from Planned Parenthood must move immediately to the FY2018 Tax Reconciliation bill. Planned Parenthood proudly self-reports taking the innocent lives of 328,348 unborn children last year and nearly one million over the past three years. That is 900 lives snuffed out before their first breath every single day by a single taxpayer-funded abortion chain. This tragedy is compounded every day that passes with inaction. The time for results is now. Lives depend on Congress’ leadership and action to enact the Graham-Cassidy bill.”

Unlike the continuing resolution in the debate over the budget, which require an unobtainable 60 votes to defund Planned Parenthood, the new health care legislation is a Reconciliation bill that requires only 50 votes to pass through the Senate and to get the President Donald Trump’s desk.

However the last attempt to pass a Reconciliation Bill did not obtain enough votes as three pro-abortion Republicans opposed the measure. They included former presidential candidate John McCain who typically votes pro life, as well as pro-abortion Republicans Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of Maine. If pro-life Advocates want the nation’s biggest abortion business to be defunded, they will need to begin calling those three Senators office offices in droves.

Earlier this year, the abortion chain Planned Parenthood finally released its annual report.

The report shows increases in abortion numbers and taxpayer funding in 2015, alongside decreases in contraception, breast exams and overall patient numbers.

Planned Parenthood continued to maintain its status as the largest abortion provider in the United States. The abortion group performed 328,348 abortions on unborn babies, 4,349 more than the previous year, according to the report.

At the same time, it saw 2.4 million patients, about 100,000 fewer than the previous year and about 500,000 fewer than five years ago. Contraception services, which the abortion chain touts as its primary service, also dropped from 2.94 million to 2.8 million during the past two years.

Meanwhile, the abortion chain received more taxpayer funding. The report shows Planned Parenthood receiving $554.6 million, up from $553.7 million the previous year. This increase occurred while pro-abortion President Barack Obama was in power.

This pattern is consistent with its annual reports from the past several years. Abortions and taxpayer funding keep going up, while patient numbers and other services go down.

A recent congressional investigation into the abortion business involving its sales of aborted baby parts concluded with lawmakers recommended that Congress defund it. Planned Parenthood also has been caught in numerous scandals involving Medicaid fraud and failures to report suspected sex trafficking and sexual abuse of minors.

Earlier this year, Planned Parenthood leaders refused an offer to receive an increase in taxpayer funding if they stopped doing abortions. CEO Cecile Richards called the offer “obscene and insulting,” making it very clear that abortions – not women’s health care – are what really are important to Planned Parenthood.

Planned Parenthood claims it is an essential provider of women’s health care, but its own annual reports show it continues to center its practices around aborting unborn babies.

President Donald Trump promised to sign a bill that would defund the Planned Parenthood abortion business.

Recent polls also indicate Americans support the defunding efforts. New polling found 56 percent of Americans in battleground states want Planned Parenthood defunded.

The abortion company has also been exposed for selling the body parts of aborted children. The expose’ videos catching Planned Parenthood officials selling the body parts of aborted babies have shocked the nation. Here is a list of all 14:

  • In the first video: Dr. Deborah Nucatola of Planned Parenthood commented on baby-crushing: “We’ve been very good at getting heart, lung, liver, because we know that, so I’m not gonna crush that part, I’m gonna basically crush below, I’m gonna crush above, and I’m gonna see if I can get it all intact.”
  • In the second video: Planned Parenthood’s Dr. Mary Gatter joked, “I want a Lamborghini” as she negotiated the best price for baby parts.
  • In the third video: Holly O’Donnell, a former Stem Express employee who worked inside a Planned Parenthood clinic, detailed first-hand the unspeakable atrocities and how she fainted in horror over handling baby legs.
  • In the fourth video: Planned Parenthood’s Dr. Savita Ginde stated, “We don’t want to do just a flat-fee (per baby) of like, $200. A per-item thing works a little better, just because we can see how much we can get out of it.” She also laughed while looking at a plate of fetal kidneys that were “good to go.”
  • In the fifth video: Melissa Farrell of Planned Parenthood-Gulf Coast in Houston boasted of Planned Parenthood’s skill in obtaining “intact fetal cadavers” and how her “research” department “contributes so much to the bottom line of our organization here, you know we’re one of the largest affiliates, our Research Department is the largest in the United States.”
  • In the sixth video: Holly O’Donnell described technicians taking fetal parts without patient consent: “There were times when they would just take what they wanted. And these mothers don’t know. And there’s no way they would know.”
  • In the seventh and perhaps most disturbing video: Holly O’Donnell described the harvesting, or “procurement,” of organs from a nearly intact late-term fetus aborted at Planned Parenthood Mar Monte’s Alameda clinic in San Jose, CA. “‘You want to see something kind of cool,’” O’Donnell says her supervisor asked her. “And she just taps the heart, and it starts beating. And I’m sitting here and I’m looking at this fetus, and its heart is beating, and I don’t know what to think.”
  • In the eighth video: StemExpress CEO Cate Dyer admits Planned Parenthood sells “a lot of” fully intact aborted babies.
  • The ninth video: catches a Planned Parenthood medical director discussing how the abortion company sells fully intact aborted babies — including one who “just fell out” of the womb.
  • The 10th video: catches the nation’s biggest abortion business selling specific body parts — including the heart, eyes and “gonads” of unborn babies. The video also shows the shocking ways in which Planned Parenthood officials admit that they are breaking federal law by selling aborted baby body parts for profit.
  • Unreleased Videos: Unreleased videos from CMP show Deb Vanderhei of Planned Parenthood caught on tape talking about how Planned Parenthood abortion business affiliates may “want to increase revenue [from selling baby parts] but we can’t stop them…” Another video has a woman talking about the “financial incentives” of selling aborted baby body parts.
  • The 11th video: catches a Texas Planned Parenthood abortionist planning to sell the intact heads of aborted babies for research. Amna Dermish is caught on tape describing an illegal partial-birth abortion procedure to terminate living, late-term unborn babies which she hopes will yield intact fetal heads for brain harvesting.
  • The 12th video in the series shows new footage of Jennefer Russo, medical director at Planned Parenthood in Orange County, California, describing to undercover investigators how her abortion business tries to harvest intact aborted babies’ bodies for a local for-profit biotech company and changes the abortion procedure to do so.
  • The 13th video: exposes a Planned Parenthood medical director admitting that babies born alive after abortion are sometimes killed.
  • The 14th video: catches Planned Parenthood executives discussing gruesome abortion procedures and the sale of body parts from aborted babies for profit.

New Planned Parenthood Abortion Clinics in Missouri May Close Just as Fast as They Open

via LifeNews.com September 15, 2017 at 02:38PM

Reveling in an injunction issued by U.S. District Judge Howard Sachs earlier this year that blocked enforcement Missouri’s long-standing requirement that those who conduct abortions must have hospital privileges within 30 miles of their abortion facility, two Planned Parenthood organizations are pushing forward with plans to expand abortions into four communities in the Show Me State.

However, Planned Parenthood’s abortion expansion plans may be short-lived.

On September 12, 2017, the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals granted State Attorney General Josh Hawley’s request that the full court rehear the appeal of the ruling that blocked the long-standing safety regulations. The Eighth Circuit also ruled to vacate a July ruling that denied the state the opportunity to make a motion in opposition to the restraining order that Planned Parenthood is relying on to expand their abortion businesses.

Earlier this week, Planned Parenthood Great Plains, based in Overland Park, Kansas, announced that it has begun taking appointments for medication abortions, which are expected to resume next week. It also reportedly just passed a state inspection of its Columbia location, which has been the heated fulcrum of Missouri’s abortion battle for a number of years.

Planned Parenthood of Greater St. Louis Region has signaled that medication abortions at its Springfield center are just weeks away. It also plans to add abortions to their list of services in Joplin.

None of the abortionists involved in the expansion plans have qualified for hospital privileges, leaving women at risk of delay in emergency care should abortion complications arise, as they have all too frequently at the currently-lone Missouri abortion facility in St. Louis.

This means if the state appeal to the full Eighth Circuit is successful, the four expansion locations would again be in non-compliance of Missouri licensing requirements.

In addition, a Missouri new law, SB5, is set to go into effect later this year. There is doubt that the Planned Parenthood facilities can comply with the many new patient safety requirements, which include:

• Detailed emergency plans;
• Prohibitions against interfering with emergency medical treatment by requesting ambulances run without lights and sirens;
• Unannounced annual inspections;
• Informed consent must be given by the person conducting the abortions.

SB5 also has placed the authority of enforcement of this new law within the jurisdiction of the Attorney General’s office, and provides new protections for whistleblowers who come forward with information of violations.

“Planned Parenthood organizations in Missouri have been known to engage in dangerous and deceptive practices in order to circumvent state laws and safety regulations. Given their poor past performance, I believe Planned Parenthood’s anticipated abortion expansion will not last long,” said Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue.

The work of Operation Rescue in documenting abortion abuses at Planned Parenthood’s St. Louis abortion location provided a basis for many of the provisions in SB5.

A 2015 State Senate investigation, led by State Sen. Kurt Schaefer, into Planned Parenthood’s shady operations led to the discovery that Planned Parenthood Great Plains had obtained phony hospital privileges for their Columbia abortionist Colleen McNichols, along with irregularities in in the required pathology reports for all tissue and human remains from abortions. It also revealed that the Department of Health at that time may have been complicit in allowing these violations.

Since then, a new pro-life administration under the able leadership of Gov. Eric Greitens made no bones about their efforts to ensure abortion facilities stop their shoddy practices. Also, the Missouri Department of Health has appointed a new director who is dedicated to ensuring that the laws of that state are properly enforced.

Despite the headlines touting Planned Parenthood’s abortion expansion, Newman remains hopeful.

“We will just have to wait and see how the legal issues and the new law pans out in Missouri, but given the new conditions in Missouri with a new pro-life administration and the new law, don’t place any bets on Planned Parenthood,” he said.
